Yayasan KAF was designed and initiated following the model
of the mother organization, ACAF, based in Barcelona, Spain. ACAF Founder,
Jean-Claude Rodríguez Ferrera developed the KAF methodology following the
teachings of Salomon Raydan, founder of FUNDEFIR NGO in Venezuela, who
developed the methodology (named Bankomunales in Latin America), following his
experience and work with informal microfinance tools in rural areas, available
all around the world. Both founders were chosen Ashoka Fellows for their contribution
to community development through KAF methodology by Ashoka NGO, which supports
social entrepreneurs:
Arianne Martín, international
advisor for KAF Indonesia, learned the KAF methodology with ACAF and traveled
to Asia with the objective of training local NGO’s in KAF methodology, starting
with Indonesia. In October 2011, the
first three KAF groups were created in Kuta Lombok, Nusa Tengara Barat, in Indonesia,
as a test. After over 2 years of trial with 10 groups, KAF Indonesia was
created in 2014. Currently there are 21 groups in Lombok and 9 groups in
Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, these last ones sponsored by CARE Advance project,
Indonesia. More than 500 women have been empowered by joining the groups, while
we are now in the process of expanding into other regions in Lombok and
Indonesia.
